Dr. Claudio Brunstein has published the results of a recent University of Minnesota study of 65 patients with lymphoid malignancies. Each patient had nonmyeloablative conditioning followed by umbilical cord blood transplantation. The study found that three years post-transplant, this patient group had low treatment related mortality (TRM). A sizeable proportion of these patients also enjoyed prolonged progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS).
Dr. Brunstein has previously published his findings about the use of nonmyeloablative UCB transplantation in adult patients with advanced hematological diseases.
