Welcome to one of the world's premier Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) programs. People travel from across the country and around the world for BMT treatment at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, and University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital. Together, we partner with patients and families to make the BMT experience the very best it can be.
For more than 40 years, University of Minnesota Physicians have provided expert, innovative patient-centered care to BMT patients. Our program is the oldest and one of the largest and most respected BMT research programs in the world. In 1968, we performed the world's first successful human bone marrow transplant using a matched sibling donor. Our physicians provide treatment for many diseases using both autologous and allogeneic transplant. We have the largest umibilical cord blood program in the country, using cord blood for nearly 80 percent of our patients.
To date, our physicians have performed well over 5,000 BMTs and continue to lead their field in developing new treatments.
